(EN) Filigrees : a manuscript approach  - December 4th & 5th 2021

course in English 2x 2 hours via zoom - 6PM to 8PM French time
Also called the threads of the Virgin, filigrees have been used from the end of the Roman period to the beginning of the Renaissance. These ornaments are based on the stylisation of plant shapes. Made with pointed nibs, these patterns are numerous during the Gothic period.
During this course, we will study different types of filigree through the analysis of medieval manuscripts, each time looking at the way counterforms were filled and how borders and antennas were used. Furthermore, we will see how to reuse these patterns in different contexts.
The course is recorded and available for 2 weeks after the live.
Cost :60€

(EN) Puzzled versals  - November 13th & 14th

course in English 2x 2 hours via zoom - 6PM to 8PM French time
Who doesn't know about versals, those bouncy initials used as initials in many manuscripts? In the first part of the course, we will explore the variations of shapes of the different letters and the ways to split them to make two-colored puzzles. Who has never suffered from having to calligraph a name or a simple word and not finding a suitable composition? In the second part of the course, we will see how to make small compositions based on versals, using historical models but also letting our imagination run free.
The course is recorded and available for 2 weeks after the live.
